You Can Help Make a Difference for This Christian Ministry!
Yakima Union Gospel Mission is a Christian nonprofit that helps people move from homelessness to wholeness. It was founded in 1936 with the goal of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through its work.
More than 85 years after it was established, the Mission continues to serve the Yakima community through its homeless shelter, addiction-recovery programs, outreach efforts, meal services, and medical and dental clinics. And the programs have proven effective: graduates of the Mission’s recovery program are four times more likely to stay sober than they would if participating in traditional detox programs.
Yet instead of praising the Mission for the strides it has made in caring for the homeless, Washington state officials are hitting the ministry with threats of unconstitutional penalties.
The state says that the Mission and other faith-based ministries don’t have the right to hire only those who share and live out their beliefs.
Can you imagine? A Gospel-centered religious ministry being FORCED to hire employees who explicitly DO NOT share their beliefs?
The First Amendment guarantees their fundamental religious freedom, and that’s what we just told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, during oral argument.
We’ll stand with the Mission all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary.
Cases like that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars—sometimes even more—from beginning to end.
But thanks be to God and the support of people like you, we’ve seen great success at the Supreme Court, winning 15 cases since 2011—including serving on the Mississippi legal team that overturned Roe v. Wade!
Will you help us stand up for the God-given rights of Yakima Union Gospel Mission and other Christian ministries? Your gift will help protect their ability to share the hope of the Gospel while providing the less fortunate with warmth, comfort, and food.
